Hai Di Lao 海底捞 @ Clarke Quay

I am sure many has read or heard of good reviews of Hai Di Lao. We have been wanting to try but only planned for it recently.

We have heard so much about its services and the horrendous waiting time. When you have a kid, queuing for something for hours is not a viable option. When a kid is hungry, he or she is hungry. They cannot wait. Anyway, we made a reservation about 3 weeks b4. We arrived 30 mins b4 our reservation at 6.30pm. It was already crowded and we were told we have to wait for about 30 mins.

These are the people waiting for their table.

Hai Di Lao is known for its services. They pamper you and keep you very occupied until you have no time to complain about the waiting time. LOL There are TV, manicure services, free flow drinks and snacks which you can keep yourself occupied with while you wait.

There is also a little small play area for kids.

One glance of the entire restaurant from near the entrance.

The holding area as seen below.

Watching action taking place while we waited for our table. Apparently the shifu is doing 拉面.

This was the tray of snacks we were served with. Actually initially we were totally ignored. No one served us drinks or snacks. It was until about 10 mins later, someone actually came to us and asked what beverage we wanted. This is free flow by the way at no charge.

We truly waited for 30 mins b4 we were given a table. It wasn't that bad since we arrived 30 mins ahead of our reserved timing.

When we were seated at a table, we were being attended to by about 2 serving staff. The service was really personable and we felt we had the whole world of attention from them. That is quite an unique feeling because in mass restaurant like this, you hardly get services like that. Usually, if you can get one to attend to you, its quite a bonus. But here, they have two.

There were several type of soup bases. We can choose two so I chose the black chicken soup base and ma la soup base. End up we eat mostly from the black chicken soup base. Cos the soup base is really good and I love black chicken!

After they filled the pot with our soup base choices, the serving staff even scooped us each a bowl of soup. Most steamboat places just let you do the work.

Diners will order the ingredients from an ipad. Most items displayed are in full portion and if you have less diners or small appetite, order it in half portion.

The ingredients are really fresh. And I love it that they offer quail eggs. It's one of my favourite and many steamboat places doesnt offer this.

We had also ordered shelled prawns for our steamboat. The serving staff asked if we needed help to deshell and they really did. I am so impressed, can!? :)

We ordered a 拉面 and they拉on the spot! It is a form of entertainment to diners and I can see the masters are really very passionate about their job. While he tries to entertain my boy with his  拉面skills, he was very honest too when the noodles hit the floor even though we didn't see it. He would tell us he will 拉 again as the noodles had hit the ground and its dirty.

I'm sure most of us have the notion that non-local Chinese owned or concept restaurants are non-hygienic and dirty. So I am quite glad that its clean, comfortable and the serving staff are neat and values hygiene too.

The entire meal for 3 adults and 1 child, cost us about $150. Kinda expensive but for the experience must at least go once. I kept thinking of the black chicken soup base. Hopefully I can go back again soon for the black chicken soup base. Hiakz!
