Ever since after my maiden Korea trip last year, I have occasional cravings for Korean BBQ. But they were never strong enough to want to eat it. Moreover, my family is not a Korean cuisine fan. I was supposed to meet a friend and she was craving for Korean food. So after some research, we decided to head to Wang Dae Bak @ Amoy St for dinner. I read online reviews that is it good and the restaurant can get quite crowded.
When we arrived at around 615pm on a Friday, there was already diners dining in there.
I seldom dine in Korean restaurants. So I can get quite sua ku! Haha! Anyway, most Korean BBQ places has this hood thingy to absorb the smoke. If not you will smell like one huge piece of cooked meat after dining there.
Koreans are known to have many many small side dishes during meals. I thought its quite a hassle to prepare so many side dishes! But this is their culture and they are so used to it.
This BBQ place uses charcoal. Kinda cool!
We ordered their chef recommended meat. One spicy and one non-spicy.
They poured some egg mixture to the side of the BBQ tray. We were quite sua ku about it initially. Hahaha The cooked egg actually tasted damn good ok!!
The meat is flavourful and tender. Super nice!!
We ordered a ginseng chicken soup but there is no taste of ginseng. I wonder why? This one is quite a disappointment.
We also ordered a kimchi pancake. Both of us didnt eat much cos we both felt it was horrid!!! :(
Only the meat was good. Haha well I think I will come back for the meat.
Oh and after we are done with the meat, they cleared the tray although we havent finish our egg. :( Kinda sad. Didn't expect they will clear the tray when they asked if they can clear the charcoal. Would be nice if they could have asked first about the egg on the tray.
Service is so so there. Staff weren't very friendly and they always seem to be in a rush. They don't communicate very much with the diners. Basically its just take order, serve and go.
