The Square @ Novotel Clarke Quay Hotel

It is always tough for me to decide on a place to celebrate a loved one's birthday! That is because I always have new ideas for dining places and I always feel the place can be better and thus.... making shortlisting very hard. :P After checking out a few places that serves fresh oysters, I decided on The Square at Novotel Clarke Quay Hotel.

I noticed the restaurants under the Novotel group are named The Square? It happened in BangKok and Singapore. Not sure if its the same for other hotels in this group.

Anyway, we have not been here for dining before. So it is refreshing to have my mum's birthday dinner here.

The restaurant is quite spacious.

Appetisers... nothing interests me.

Fresh shelled items but as you can see, it is quite bare. Not quite a fan of buffet lines that are bare. What more... we came for oysters and each time they only refill the bed with a few oysters only. 

The only sashimi they have is it. Quite sad that there was no salmon. I would think most people prefer salmon to tuna?

The roasted / BBQ section.

Mee goreng and laksa corner.... would be nice if one noodle is spicy and the other not!

I managed to snag a plate of fresh oysters when it was refilled. This was to share with hub and my mum.

Their char kway teow is nice and very seldom jacket potato is offered at buffets. Love these.

This is also the first time I tried mint sauce. I like anything minty and so when I saw this, I had to try! Not bad!

To our pleasant surprice, they have durian puree! Durian.... a tropical fruit that is hard to resist for many of us. :D The only down side was it was a little rough on the texture. Not as smooth as some we tried. But no fish got prawn also can la!

BBQed crab... I was too lazy to eat that so I only had one.

The BBQ wing is not too bad but a little oily. The BBQ meat is cold and hard though.

The only salmon available was smoked salmon. Would definitely prefer raw salmon!

Dessert corner

The buffet price per head was $58++. Senior citizen cost $40++. Both prices are for weekends. Certain credit cards give you 15% off adult prices too.

During reservations, I requested for a slice of birthday cake to surprise my mum. But I guess none of the staff bothered. We were also too full so we decided not to ask for it. But seriously, since I have requested for it during my reservation, it would have been nice that they remember and serve the cake.

There wasn't much from the buffet line that my boy can or would eat. Both the noodles available are spicy. The food aint that kids friendly. So we had to order ala carte kids meal for the boy.

Overall the experience is so so. It didn't really leave me with a great impression. Nevertheless, service is still not too bad except for the birthday cake part. Anyway, I don't think we will return anytime soon.
