Vintage High Tea @ House, Dempsey

It was our customary wedding anniversary and we both had taken leave. Hub suggested going for a nice lunch or high tea. I would prefer high tea as we normally do not have the time or chance to go for one. We looked around a few high tea places and I was hoping to try Antidote out. Unfortunately, I thought it was a little expensive. With my condition now, I cannot eat too much. It gives me bad bad heartburn. Hence I think its not worth the money to visit Antidote. Maybe next time.

We shortlisted Lime at Parkroyal and Goodwood Park. In the end, last minute, I remembered there is high tea at Dempsey and did a google. How lucky we are! House has a vintage high tea and we though the price is ok at $30++/pax, Moreover, it was a Thursday! Their high tea is available on Thurs and Friday. Luck is on our side!

House has a relatively huge sitting area. We were ushered to our seats and I am very grateful to the lady who showed us to our seats. Seeing my pregnant tummy, she took a cushion from another couch for my seat so that I can sit comfortably. I was really impressed with the lady for being observant and being caring to her customers. Thank you for that! :)

Choices of tea available.... I love tea! Every since I got pregnant, I hardly drink tea. If I did, its mostly non-caffeine like cammomile which I don't really enjoy. But since I had been good and abstained from black, red and green tea all these while, I figured, it wouldn't harm if I had tea today. :P I chose the peppermint tea.

The pastries buffet looked really good too. It was so prettily laid out that when the buffet line started, many people were snapping pictures away. So did I. :P

The selection was yummy and I really enjoyed. If there is a chance, I hope to come back again for high tea.

Besides tea, they served limited lemonade drink with Basil. It was yummy and when they had it refilled, people were Q-ing for it.

This was a special lamb dish they served to each table. I don't take lamb so I skipped this and hub did try a little only cos by then he was too full to take in anymore. Ha!

Teddy & Me @ Marina Square

We passed by Teddy & Me outlet previously but was too full to try it out. This time, we made an effort to visit it.

The entire cafe theme is Mr Bean. Mr Bean is a love-hate character. If you have watched his comedies before, you will know what I mean.

They have quite a fair bit of ice cream flavours. But I find the range so so. Nothing quite fantastic that would make me want to come back again.

They serve a few varieties of crepes. But unfortunately, the day we visited, they didnt have the rainbow crepe which I wanted to try!

Interior decor of the cafe....

There are tablets mounted near each table playing Mr Bean's comedies to keep you entertained.

I ordered a strawberry crepe. It was so so. Nothing fantastic.

I find the prices not very reasonable for the taste. If the items are good, at least it would have been worth the price.

Esette @ Duxton Road

I and my friend took a stroll after dinner to Tanjong Pagar area in search of a cafe to chill out. I think there are more pubs and Korean restaurants there than cafes. After some walk, we decided on Esette. It is a small little cafe located along Duxton Road.

There weren't many pretty looking cakes so I settled for a strawberry slice.

We both ordered soda drinks. I had lemongrass soda and she some berry soda. Sadly both tasted like medicine! It has a bitter after taste that we do not want to drink at all. Both of us had 2/3 glass left. Really wasted!

Tian Kee & Co @ Dakota

Besides old school decor, the trend now seems to be converting old school shops / provision stores into a cafe. That was what Tian Kee & Co cafe did. Not only did they convert an old provision store into a cafe, they had the store name and signboard preserved. Quite interesting I would say.

This cafe is located at Dakota Crescent area and its non-airconditioned. I have read that its opened by a couple who's wife's dream was to open a cafe. Indeed, dreams come true if you dare to venture!

We were lured by its concept and wanted to check out this cafe.

The interior is really old school and I heard they tried to preserve whatever that could be used from the previous provision shop.

We are both cake lovers... but upon knowing that the pastry display cabinet only had mostly cheesecakes and muffins, we were quite disappointed. We prefer sponge cakes anytime.

Anyhow, since we are already there, we ordered a milo cheesecake. Hmm... it was not something we like.

Even the pink lady drink (bandung) wasn't anything refreshing. It was too milky for my liking. :(

Guess this place isn't our cup of tea.

Flee Away Cafe @ Dunlop St

Tucked in the rows of shop houses in Little India sits a quaint little cafe - Flee Away. The cafe space isn't huge but it is filled with charm. I guess anything that is retro-ish goes well with me. Just feels nostalgia seeing the old school utensils or furnishings. :)

I'm still thinking if I should go towards the retro theme for our new place next time. I love retro-ish / old school stuff but I'm not too sure if I can digest it if I have to live, breathe and face it everyday... day in day out. The dilemmas of a woman. Haha!!

Back to Flee Away....

Enter the cafe and you will be greeted by two cinema seats. I thought that was quite interesting. I wonder if anyone will actually take that seat?

Recycling the base of singer's sewing machines as the table base is common sight! Several cafes have done that.

This huge plane above our table is gonna be such an attention grabber if our boy was with us.

The entire cafe was filled with old school decor and furnishings.

Wow... just wondering if you will need to have any special acquired taste buds to have ang ku kueh go with ice cream? Quite a weird combi....

Even the salt and pepper came in old school looking cars.

What made me feel so so at home that I can relate to is the greenie laminate chairs! We used to have this at home in the 70s/80s!

How come it seems that in the olden days, every cabinet, chair and fan looks the same?! I wonder if the folks feel boring in the past? Now its like such a gem for many!

We tried the earl grey cake and it was heavenly!!! It feels like ice cream. OMG and its not too sweet. Just what I like. I will definitely try this again next time.

The mango minty drink was a little too bland though.

Overall, the service wasn't too bad!
